Summer Dangers: Personal Injury Risks in Warm Weather

The summer months tend to be a less busy period for Personal Injury lawyers. There’s no snow to slip on and no ice to cause road traffic accidents, but warm weather can bring its dangers too, and here are some issues to be mindful of in the sunshine.

Food Poisoning Risks

Food poisoning is common at this time of year, as improper hygiene practices can cause food to spoil quickly in the heat. If you’re out and about and thinking of buying something to eat, keep a watchful eye on where and how the food is being stored. Is it kept in the fridge until needed? Is the food covered to prevent flies from getting at it? If in doubt, don’t buy it and try the next food outlet. For most, food poisoning is an irritation, but for some, particularly the young, the old and those with compromised immune systems, it can have significant and sometimes long-term effects.

Road Accidents in Hot Weather

Road accidents occur as tempers fray in hot weather and holiday traffic jams. Bickering family members can distract the most diligent drivers. Before setting out on that trip to the coast, ensure that the air conditioning is working well and provide activities to keep children entertained, for longer than you expect the journey to take, whilst you wait in the inevitable queues.

Workplace Safety in Summer

For workers, the PPE your employer has provided is for good reason – don’t be tempted to swap your safety boots for trainers or sandals, or remove helmets to let some air in, as you can guarantee that is the day that the equipment is most needed!

Enjoy the summer, stay safe, but if the worst happens and you’re injured as a result of someone else’s fault, contact our friendly team at Malcolm C Foy and Co Ltd.
